Call to Order
The
meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Chairman Jerry Glass.
Public Comments
There
were no public comments at this time.
Minutes
Mr.
Terre made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 7, 2011 meeting; motion
seconded by Mrs. Trevino; all in favor.
There
were no official minutes for March because there was not a quorum for the
meeting.
Financial Reports
Mr.
Lindsay made a motion to approve the financial reports as submitted for the
periods ending February 28, 2011 and March 31, 2011; motion was seconded by Mrs.
Trevino; all in favor.
Mr.
Stuber reported that as of this date the department has a positive cash flow
balance.
Old Business: Project
Status Report
Dennis Park
Mr.
Lindsay inquired about the agreement with the Charleston Baseball Academy. Mr. Stuber stated that Mr. Kowalski and the
Recreation Department will enter into a rental agreement for Dennis Park. Mr. Kowalski will base his baseball business
at Dennis Park; he will make improvements to the facility and pay us rent.
Mr.
Glass expressed concern that we might need this facility for our teams. It could alleviate teams from having to play
on Saturdays. Mr. Stuber said this field
is typically only used for older players.
Pool at Crowfield Golf
& Country Club
Discussion
was held on how memberships will be sold and how members will access the
facilities.
Mr.
Stuber explained the fee structure for pool and tennis memberships.
Cultural Arts
Mr.
Stuber stated that he has met twice with interested committee members and the
meetings have generated several very promising ideas.
They
are researching having a summer concert series at the Crowfield Golf and
Country Club.
Mr.
Terre suggested having a photography class.
Community Garden
Mr.
Stuber reported that the Recreation Department is partnering with Lowe’s to
gauge the interest in starting a Community Garden project in Goose Creek. Lowe’s has the sign-up sheets and if there is
enough interest, the project would start in the fall.
Possible
locations being considered include Foster Creek Park, behind the Senior Citizen
Center or the power line property.
New Business
Parks Report:
The
maintenance department is deciding on the type of covers they want for the
dugouts at Felkel Field and then they will order and install them.
Mr.Terre asked the status on the new playground at
Forest Lawn. Mr. Stuber is waiting to
hear back from Mr. Tillman and the homeowners regarding the type of equipment
they would like to see at the park.
Recreation Report:
Mr.
Glass asked the staff to make sure that coaches are notified when changes are
made to schedules.
Director’s Report
Mrs.
Trevino asked for an update concerning expansion of the Recreation
District. Mr. Stuber said that Mayor Heitzler is working with Councilman Fish on this issue.
Closing Public
Comments
Mr.
Glass updated the Commission on the 2010 Comprehensive Plan for the City of
Goose Creek. He was on the committee and
they have finished their draft report.
The plan is now going to the Zoning and Planning Board for public hearings
and then to City Council for review.
Mr.
Glass stated that the document took 1 ˝ years to develop. It has language in it to help guide in the
development of recreational facilities for the future.

Terre made a motion to elect the following officers for 2011:

was seconded by Eddie Hiott; all in favor.
Adjournment
Mrs.
Trevino made a motion to close the meeting at 7:00 p.m.; the motion was
seconded by Mr.Terre All in favor.
