COMMISSION MEETING

Minutes Summary

December 7, 2009

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 6:02 pm by Chairman Jerry Glass.

Public Comments

None at this time.

Minutes

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 9th meeting; seconded by Mr. Terre; all in favor.

Financial Reports

Mr. Terre made a motion to approve the financial reports as submitted for the period ending November 30, 2009; motion was seconded by Mrs. Trevino, all in favor

Project Status Report

Oak Creek Park

Mr. Stuber updated the Commission on the status of the playground equipment for Oak Creek Park.   Mr. Stuber reported he went to a special City Council meeting to get the bids approved.  At the meeting it was brought to his attention that the bids were not alike.

Mr. Stuber asked for rebids for the same equipment with freight and taxes included.  He will now take the rebids to the regular scheduled City Council meeting on December 8th to get the bids approved.

Audit

Mr. Johnston passed out the 2008 audit to the commissioners and went over it briefly with them.

Mr. Glass asked the Commission to look over the audit and ask any questions to Mr. Johnston at a later time.  Mr. Stuber reminded the Commission that the 2009 audit will be with the City of Goose Creek’s auditor.  Mr. Glass asked if Recreation will be separated from the rest of the City’s audit.  Mr. Stuber answered he believes it will but he will check on that to make sure he is correct.

New Business

Parks Report:

Mr. Stuber informed the Commission the maintenance staff has received a grant for the Dogwood Park Pavilion.  The staff has been working very hard to get this project completed.

Mr. Stuber also stated that the maintenance staff has been working on the sewer line for Dogwood Park, trying to finish the trail at Foster Creek Park and replacing the light poles at the tennis courts.

Recreation Report:

Mr. Stuber informed the Commission that the second annual Ladies Night Out event just took place on Friday night.  He also updated the Commission on the Christmas Festival that took place on Saturday.  There was tree lighting scheduled at the last minute and the trees are located in front of the police department.

Mr. Stuber stated that basketball practices have begun and the season has officially started.

Mr. Terre asked about the Artist Expedition and how does someone get involved.  Mr. Stuber stated that this is a new program that the staff is trying and participants can contact Angela Martin or Julie Hoskins from Wild Goose Gallery for more details.  Mr. Stuber expressed that there is certain criteria that have to be met before an artist can present their work.

Director’s Report

Mr. Glass asked if the Commission had any questions about the budget to please contact Mr. Stuber.

Mr. Stuber explained that the staff had to conform to the City’s format and that there will be an increase in fees for memberships.  The increase will help to replace the exercise equipment.

Mrs. Trevino asked since the recreation department is still a SPD can the staff still solicit sponsorships?  Mr. Stuber answered yes but the staff is not allowed to ask for them and sponsorship requests have to be approved by City Council at budget time.

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to close the meeting at 6:30pm; the motion was seconded by Mr. Terre, all in favor.
